Anton Shammas is a Palestinian novelist, essayist, and playwright who writes in Arabic, Hebrew and English. His first novel Arabesque was listed by New York Times Book Review as one of the best seven fiction books of 1988. He is Professor of Comparative Literature and Near Eastern Studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
