Kamal Naser (1922-1973) Born in Beir Zeit near Ramallah in 1925, during his relatively
short life, he experienced exile, imprisonment, and constant harassment. He was
expelled by Israel in 1967, and he became a member of the PLO Executive Committee
from 1969-1971. He was assassinated by Israel in Beirut 1973, along with Kamal
Adwan and Mahmoud Najjar. This poem was an answer to a poem by the prominent
Palestinian poet Fadwa Tuqan, which she sent to him when he was imprisoned in the
West Bank in the fifties.
