Prof. Yair Hirschfeld has since 1979 been involved in promoting the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. He prepared the concept of the Oslo process and led the initial negotiations. Since then, he was involved in preparing the negotiating process under Prime Ministers Rabin, Barak, Sharon, Olmert and Netanyahu. Being an Emeritus of the University of Haifa, he is presently working with a coalition of NGO’s in preparing a security and stability building process for Gaza, embedded in the wider region.
If a diplomatic initiative is to succeed, it will have to meet the basic conditions of
strategic preparation, disciplined negotiation, credible implementation, and the
cultivation of trust.
