Palestinian-Israeli Peace NGO Forum Delegation to Brussels

From March 17-19th, PIJ Co-editor Ziad AbuZayyad participated in a joint delegation from the Palestinian-Israeli Peace NGO Forum to Brussels, Belgium. A number of meetings and public events aimed at strengthening the communication and cooperation between the Forum and European partners delivered its messages to some 400 people, including to Ms. Benita Ferrero Waldner, Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, European Commission and to the President of Belgium’s Senate, together with additional senators.

The Peace NGO Forum delegation meeting European parliamentary members from the Delegation for Relations with the PLC (Palestinian Legislative Council) and the Delegation for Relations with Israel.

With a view to discussing the need for further European involvement in the peace process and, more specifically, civil society initiatives, the delegation addressed important figures who deal with Middle East issues in the Belgian Foreign Ministry, the Council of the European Union and European Parliament, including Parliament members from the Delegation for Relations with the PLC (Palestinian Legislative Council) together with members of the Delegation for Relations with Israel. Meetings were also held with European civil society and peace organizations, local Belgian officials and the Jewish community, creating new partnership opportunities and strengthening professional ties. The visit raised awareness about the Palestinian-Israeli Peace NGO Forum and the individual member organizations, including the Palestine-Israel Journal, and showcased the strong, joint commitment – despite all past and recent events – of the Forum and its member organizations to the idea that the future of both nations is inter-dependent and that strengthening cooperation is key to building a peaceful future for the region.
