Avraham Burg was the youngest speaker of the Knesset
(1999-2003) in the history of the Israeli parliament.
Raised in the heart of the religious Zionist movement, he
has been a peace activist and an advocate for pluralism
and tolerance in Israeli society, and of the separation of
politics and religion in Israel. Burg is the author of several
books, among them God Is Back (2006) and The Holocaust
Is Over (2008). He is one of the founders of Molad, the
Center for Renewal of Israeli Democracy.
A regional union will be possible only with a joint, multilateral effort to achieve a
Middle East free of nuclear and all other weapons of mass destruction.
