Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish is a physician and human rights and peace activist devoted to improving the health of and educational opportunities for women and girls in the Middle East through his research and his Daughters for Life Foundation. Born and raised in the Jabalia refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, he was the first Palestinian doctor to receive an appointment in medicine at an Israeli hospital, and is the author of I Shall Not Hate (2010), an autobiography published following the deaths of three daughters and a niece in Operation Cast Lead.
There can be no peace without women and without respect for human rights; working
toward gender equality is vital if we are to achieve a just peace between Palestinians
and Israelis.
