Prof. Yossi Yonah, a professor of philosophy at Ben- Gurion University, co-chairs the experts committee advising the Israeli protest movement, together with Prof. Avia Spivak, former deputy governor of the Bank of Israel. He is a senior research fellow at the Van Leer Institute of Jerusalem, a veteran peace activist and social activist, a board member of the Geneva Initiative and a board member of Adva Center, which monitors socioeconomic equality in Israeli society. He belongs to the group of academics who can be described as public intellectuals aspiring to translate their teaching into political action either through direct involvement in furthering public causes or by encouraging their students to do so.
