The core articles in this issue are based on papers delivered
during a conference on national identity held at the University of
Turin on February 1, 2002. The conference was co-sponsored and
funded by the Italian Foreign Ministry, the Turin Municipality, the
Region of Piedmont, and the University of Turin. The program
included presentations by Ada Lonni, Manuel Hassassian, Yoav Peled,
Basem Ra'ad, Dani Rabinowitz, Nadim Rouhana, and Majdi Shomali. A
roundtable by several European scholars discussed comparisons in
identity building, links between European and Middle Eastern
cultures, and models of coexistence. The whole procedure is to be
published in Italian by the University of Turin.
