Yaakov Peri is a member of Knesset for the Yesh Atid party; he served as minister of science, technology and space in 2013-14. He headed the Shin Bet General Security Services in 1988-94 and was featured in the award-winning 2012 documentary film The Gatekeepers. This article is based on the keynote presentation he gave at the 2015 J Street Conference at a session entitled “The Choices Ahead: Views from Israel.”
